A diagnosis of cancer is devastating. In that moment, time seems to stand still, and life appears to stop in its tracks. Many question their ability to move on, to go forward. But a mom diagnosed with cancer is still a mom. She knows her family needs her now more than ever in such a challenging time.

Emotional distress, illness, and fatigue. Medical tests, treatment schedules, and financial strain. These are the new reality for a mom with cancer. But the old reality of career obligations, housework, after-school activities, and mounting bills still demands her attention. The world rushes forward, and she must somehow keep up.

She desperately needs to do it all, and the more time she has to deal with her new reality, the better she can be at addressing all of life’s other demands. If a mom has some moments to herself—to undertake treatment, recover after chemotherapy, rest when everything seems too much—she is able to cope, and her family sees a happier, better-rested, and more confident mom.

And they—her loved ones, her support as she fights this disease—will feel more secure and hopeful. They will be better able to provide the support she needs to get well.

Special Moms, Special Challenges a 501 (c )3 non-profit organization gives these moms their moments by donating free in-home childcare services to moms and dads undergoing treatment for all types of cancer.
